What are the benefits of using wild salmon products
over fish farm salmon products?

Wild-caught salmon are healthier and richer in nutrients than salmon which are raised in fish farms by humans. Because of this, pet food supplements sourced from wild salmon are healthier for animals to consume than those made from farmed salmon. That's why Glacier Pet only sources the salmon oil in our products from wild-caught Alaskan salmon.

higher nutritional content

A fish’s nutritional content depends heavily on what they eat. In the wild, Alaskan salmon feed on plankton, shrimp, eels, other fish, and crustaceans. This is their natural diet. Since their diet is natural, the nutrients in their bodies are natural. However, salmon raised in fish farms are typically fed pellets rich in grain, which are not their natural diet. It takes up to 40% more farmed salmon oil to produce the same level of nutrients as oil harvested from wild salmon.

higher content of omega-3s

Because they’ve been feeding on natural food sources, wild Alaskan salmon can have as much as 50% more Omega-3 fatty acids. This makes them healthier to consume, because Omega-3 supplements have the potential to lower the risk of long-term health issues such as depression and hypertension as well as encourage healthy skin and coats in pets.

better for the environment

Farmed salmon are usually raised in netted pens in the ocean, which means unnatural materials—including pesticides—end up filtering into the sea and affecting nearby biomes. This is not the case with Alaskan wild salmon, which are only affected by their natural surroundings. When you use products which come from wild-caught salmon, you are making a small contribution to the health of the environment.
